Honors Scholarships for International Students in Japan Monbukagakusho

Aiming to improve student support for international students who are experiencing difficulties continuing their studies due to financial difficulties, in Japan. The Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) has arranged the Monbukagakusho Honors Scholarship Reservation Program for privately funded international students prior to arrival.

Enrollment for the academic year 2023-2023 is now open for international students who wish to pursue undergraduate or graduate study programs in any discipline at an eligible Japanese school. Selected students will receive a monthly stipend of 48,000 yen for a period of 6 to 12 months.

The Japan Student Services Organization, formerly the Japan Scholarship Foundation, is an organization that offers scholarships in the form of an educational fund for outstanding students. JASSO was founded on April 1, 2004 as a central institution to comprehensively implement various student support services for higher education in Japan.

The Japan Student Services Organization is a national student support center. Examines and analyzes student lives, collects and provides best practices, and helps train faculty and university staff members at universities with a focus on providing career education and job support and helping students with disabilities.

Eligible Course (s): Students can apply to enter a graduate school, an undergraduate school, a high school, a university of technology (third grade or higher), or a specialized course at a specialized training school in Japan.
Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible, applicants must meet all of the following / given criteria:
Applicants must be privately funded students.
Applicants must have entered any eligible university or college.
Applicants must be privately funded international students planning to enroll as full-time students at a graduate or undergraduate school in Japan.

How to Apply

How to Apply: Students must follow the procedure of the university they wish to join to complete their application for admission. Students should then connect with the school from which they have applied the most scholarship applications, as the organization does not accept direct applications from students. Supporting Documents: Students must submit the supporting documents required by their respective universities, generally academic transcripts, along with other documents for specific courses or levels.
Admission Requirements: Students must meet the entry requirements and GPA of the degree they wish to pursue at their chosen university.
Language Requirement: Students are required to have provided proof of Japanese or English language proficiency as required by the university to which they are applying. TOEFL, IELTS, JLPT, etc. they are commonly accepted in Japanese schools.


The organization will provide 48,000 YEN per month up to 6-12 months to the selected students to carry out their higher education in Japan.
